TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Coweta airman was honored Thursday night.

Thomas Garrett spent 22 years in the Air Force . He went wherever his country needed him, including tours all over the Middle East, and two in Iraq.

On Thursday night, The Tulsa Shock and the Folds of Honor Foundation said thank you. They presented his four daughters each with college scholarships.

Tom and his wife Docia say this means the world to them.

"It gives our daughters the chance to dream and the chance to reach out to the world to whatever they wanna do," Docia Garrett said.

Tom was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease and uses a special a program on his phone to communicate. He said he's overwhelmed and humbled and very appreciative knowing his girls will be taken care of.

Doctors have given Tom only a few years to live. As the disease progresses, the Garrett family knows their current home will no longer work.

So friends are helping raise money to build a new one.

They've organized a golf tournament for Monday April 11, 2011 at Meadow Brook Country Club in south Tulsa.  It costs $65 dollars a player or $260 for a four person team. More than 250 players can sign up. Registration starts at 11 a.m.
