E-Tickets Making Workload Easier For Tulsa Police

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police say well over half of the traffic tickets they issue now are e-tickets.

The police handed out 7,300 electronic-tickets just in March.

That number is steadily on the increase as more officers start using the technology. The program is streamlining the work of officers, who can now write more tickets for more violations.

"We are saving lives," City Councilor John Eagleton said. "We have 8 fewer traffic fatalities for 2010 than the average of the previous 10 years. We're saving lives, making Tulsa safer to drive, making money, it's a win."

The success of the program is causing backups in the prosecutor's office, which is planning to hire more people to handle the load.
