Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett Warns City Council On 'Privilege'

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa's Mayor Dewey Bartlett has warned the City Council that if they take further action on an attorney client waiver, he will "pursue all available remedies against those responsible."

His warning came in a letter to the Deputy City Attorney, Jean Ann Hudson.

The City Council is attempting to make more city documents available to the Attorney General, should they be needed to investigate the case for ouster against Mayor Dewey Bartlett. The case came out of an ouster petition drive by City Councilor John Eagleton, who believes Bartlett should be kicked out of office.

The City Council approved a resolution waiving privilege, which Bartlett vetoed. The Council has an override of the veto on their agenda Thursday night.

Bartlett wrote that he does not consent to the waiver, and considers their possible action as both "unauthorized and invalid."

Bartlett's personal attorney, Joel Wohlgemuth, separately wrote the City Council a letter that said waiving attorney-client privilege "is plainly in violation of the City Charter and contravenes the doctrine of the attorney-client privilege."

There is no indication the Attorney General's office has asked for any documents that are protected by privilege.
