MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma – A Muskogee man has been charged after the death of his four-year-old niece last week.
According to court records filed in Muskogee County, Robert Meeks II, 22, is charged with child sexual abuse against his niece, four-year-old Christina.
Christina, who suffered from a rare form of diabetes, had a tracheotomy, a feeding tube, and couldn't breathe on her own.
The girl's grandmother, Betty Hall, 42, is charged with one count of child neglect, records show. Court documents show Hall failed to seek medical attention for the child.
According to an affidavit, Betty Hall woke up in the early morning hours of June 19, 2011, when she heard the girl's "heart monitor alarm" go off.
She told police she saw Meeks II leave the bathroom, stop and look around suspiciously, then walk into his bedroom and shut the door.
Hall told police she went back to sleep but noticed the girl was bleeding when she changed her diaper later that morning. She admitted she did nothing and was hoping the injuries would heal on their own.
The girl was taken to the hospital on Sunday, June 19th, 2011, but died a day later. The medical examiner has not ruled yet on how she died.
