WATTS, Oklahoma – An alligator that's been on the loose in eastern Oklahoma has been killed.
An Arkansas man spotted the alligator while riding his motorcycle on a county road just east of Watts Monday night.
He noticed the gator lying along the shore of an oxbow near the Illinois River. When the man pulled over, he could tell it had been shot in the left side of the head.
The alligator had been seen several times in the area over the last few months.
Oklahoma has a native alligator population in the far southeastern part of the state, but to see one in this part of the state is extremely rare.
