CYRIL, Oklahoma -- Cyril Police and agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy.
The OSBI reported Preston Mayhan's body was found around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the trunk of his parents' car.
Preston's parents started checking with his friends Thursday morning. The first place they went was to Rodney Grady's house.
"We got along really well," said Grady.
That's when family says Preston's father saw a pair of his son's shoes and opened up the trunk.
"Just as I was about to shut the door, her husband Tony started yelling and screaming and we walked over and saw him in the trunk," said Grady.
"This was a new car to the family and the trunk could not be accessed from the outside. It could only be accessed through the back seat of the vehicle," said Jessica Brown spokesperson for the OSBI.
Preston's mom says she wants this to be a lesson to all parents who have a car with a trunk that can be accessed from the back seat.
Investigators say at this point it appears the boy was in the trunk during the heat of the day and it was over 100 degrees.
The OSBI is investigating but right now they don't suspect foul play.
