TULSA, Oklahoma -- Police are looking for a suspect in a fatality hit and run Saturday night. The suspect vehicle is thought to be a 2002-03 dark brown or gray Dodge Durango with front end damage, according to Sergeant Mark Wollmershauser, Jr. with the Tulsa Police Department.
The SUV was southbound in the 5000 block of North Peoria at about 9:30 p.m. when the driver struck and killed a woman who was in the street, Wollmershauser said.
"If the driver had stopped or at least checked on the person, we probably could have gotten some emergency medical help to them faster, and she probably would have had a chance," he said.
There were witnesses to the crime who believe a man was behind the wheel of the SUV.
The family of the woman arrived at the scene as emergency workers investigated.
"We're dealing with them and their tragedy," Wollmershauser said.
If you know anything that can help police identify the driver, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-CRIME.
