TULSA, Oklahoma – Friday Nights Flights checked out two games in the Tulsa area as Verdigris topped Sequoyah-Tahlequah and Central got the win over Tahlequah.
The Verdigris Cardinals led for much of their game, including 28-14 late in the third quarter. But Sequoyah-Tahlequah mounted a furious comeback, rallying to tie the game at 28 and force overtime.
However, Verdigris overcame the adversity, scoring a touchdown in overtime and stopping Sequoyah-Tahlequah short of the goal line to come away with the 35-28 overtime win.
The Cardinals stayed undefeated at the season at 4-0 and will host Inola next week, while Sequoyah-Tahlequah dropped its first game of the season and will host Claremore-Sequoyah next week.
The Tahlequah Tigers hosted the Central Braves, and the Braves got up early as Danny Jones busted out a long touchdown, going 50 yards after the catch to put his team up 6-0.
The Braves picked up another two touchdowns in the first half to go up 20-0.
Tahlequah finally got on the board with a touchdown run from Collin Downs to cut it to 20-7.
The Tigers couldn't ever close the gap, however, as Central came away with a 28-13 win.
Tahlequah will travel to Pryor next week while Central will visit Grove.
