TULSA, Oklahoma -- Police are searching for two suspects after a man was shot in the head in front of a group of small children. It happened Friday afternoon in the parking lot of Walgreens at 51st and Lewis.
Tulsa police got the call around 4:30 Friday afternoon -- broad daylight -- with plenty of traffic at the intersection. Now a man's in the hospital and two suspects are on the loose.
Police say the victim, 27-year-old Manuel Lara, had just pulled up to the midtown Walgreens. Officers say he was shot in the head with a shotgun. The blast shattered his car window.
"It appears he had just gotten out of his vehicle," said Captain Brad Clark of the Tulsa Police.
News On 6 spoke off camera to Lara's wife Anjanetta. She works at a nearby Jack in the Box -- that's where she learned her husband had been shot in the head.
Anjanetta says her niece and two nephews witnessed the whole thing from the back seat. Customers watched as the family broke down in tears.
"It's senseless. How could someone not care about human life like that?" said customer Michael Binder.
Officers say the victim was alert and conscious when they arrived. He's now in the hospital in serious condition. Now, police are reviewing Walgreens security video for more clues about the suspects.
"Two Hispanic male suspects and they're driving a Maroon Ford pickup," Clark said.
The victim's wife says her husband didn't have any problems with anyone, and wondered who would want to shoot anyone with three kids in the car.
"I mean, my heart's broken. That could happen to any of us. I was just walking down the street with my backpack," Binder said.
