TULSA, Oklahoma -- Police say they found Kathy Jarvis, 47, and her 12-year-old daughter, Katelyn, dead inside their home in the 2400 block of Marion at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. They believe Kathy killed her daughter then killed herself.
Officers were called to the home to check on the well-being of the two who had not been seen or heard from since October 9, 2011.
Kathy's sister asked for the check after receiving a UPS package with a letter Tuesday from Kathy stating she was going to kill herself and her daughter over her pending divorce.
Tulsa Police found the bodies of both in the daughter's bedroom. They believe Kathy shot and killed Katelyn and then killed herself.
"It appears to be the little girl's room. She was asleep in bed it looks like and she was deceased in the bed. And then the mother was deceased there next to her. There had been some family issues. Some very high emotions had been running for the last couple of weeks. I believe there was a separation between the mother and father," said Tulsa Police Captain Travis Yates.
Yates calls it a horrendous tragedy for the family and the police officers who discovered the bodies.
Neighbors reacted to the news Wednesday morning, telling News On 6 Katelyn was friendly and they never knew the family had any problems.
