Monday, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation began installing lights on a stretch of the Broken Arrow Expressway between 193rd East Avenue and Lynn Lane.
Drivers have complained of darkness on that stretch for many years. ODOT began installing lights along the center dividing wall and underneath bridges.
During construction, the inside lanes in both directions will be closed, but ODOT says the work will be done overnight between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
"There doing this to try and improve the conditions out here for everybody, to ensure we have more ambient light, and to make it a little safer out here on the highway," said Broken Arrow Police Sergeant Ed Ferguson.
The project is expected to last about a month.
