Two Okmulgee County Sheriff's deputies were injured when a man fired at deputies in the northeast portion of the county late Sunday night.

The sheriff's office stated in a news release, four deputies were dispatched to a rural residence on a report of shots fired in the 16000 block of Steele Road at 11:40 p.m.

When deputies pulled up, the man produced two firearms and fired. Three of the deputies returned fire striking the man once in the stomach.

The man ran back into the home, but surrendered a short time later.

He was flown by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital. At last word, the man is listed in critical condition.  His name has not been released.

One deputy was shot in the chin and the other deputy was injured by shrapnel.

The first sheriff's deputy was admitted to a Tulsa hospital and the second deputy was treated and released.
