Ever since the fire that destroyed the Admiral Twin Drive-in in September of 2010, fans have be wondering when it will be re-built.
There have been fund raisers, and promises but not much action. But we're finally seeing some progress.
It was a disastrous afternoon for fans of Tulsa's iconic drive-in theater, the Admiral Twin. The fire wiped out the source of decades of outdoor movie memories.
Ever since, the question has been: What next? When will it be rebuilt?
"Yeah, I think people stop by. I hear there are some things on Facebook," said Blake Smith.
Finally something to talk about, actual progress we can see. They're actually building something.
"We wanted to upgrade the facility. The bathroom, they were you know...they were 1951 so 60 years old," Smith said.
Bathrooms and concession stands will be in here too. It'll be clean and new.
"We're trying to emulate, I guess is the right word what we used to have, but instead of a wooden structure it will be all steel," Smith said about the new screen being built.
Now he says those folks who have been concerned that nothing was happening out here will be able to drive by and follow the progress, but when they'll finish is still an open question.
"I'll be happy to make in 2012 sometime," Smith said.
He says building an outdoor theater now has been much more difficult than he imagined, but when it's finished it won't be the same Admiral Twin we saw in the movie "The Outsiders" it might actually be better.
