Tulsa Public Schools will hold two parent and community forums to share proposed changes to Mayo Demonstration Academy and Sequoyah Elementary School this month and next month.
School superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard says the process of hearing from the public is similar to what was done with last year's Project Schoolhouse.
"Given student enrollment numbers and projections for next year, we are tight on space in several of our schools, including Mayo and Sequoyah," said Dr. Keith Ballard, TPS superintendent. "That's why we are considering moving Mayo to the former Wilson Middle School building, and relocating students from Sequoyah to the larger facility at the former Cleveland Middle School. Not only will this solve our space issues, but it will allow for the expansion of Mayo in the centrally-located Renaissance neighborhood where Wilson is located."
The former Cleveland Middle School at 724 North Birmingham, Wilson Middle School at 1127 South Columbia and Roosevelt Elementary School at 1202 West Easton were all closed under Project Schoolhouse.
The first forum is Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 6-7 p.m. at Mayo Demonstration Academy gym at 2525 South 101st East Avenue. The second is Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6-7 p.m. at Sequoyah Elementary School gym at 3441 East Archer.
