Sand Springs Police are investigating the death of a baby boy.
Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter says 20-year-old Jobe Jones was arrested Tuesday afternoon after emergency crews found Jones' 6-month-old son dead at a home in the 400 block of West 8th Street.
Jones told police he was asleep on the couch with his 6-month-old son and 1-year-old daughter when he awoke and found the infant apparently dead.
"The six month old was placed more at his feet area on the couch," Cartersaid.
Emergency crews found signs of rigor mortis in the infant and pronounced the boy dead. Carter says Jones was arrested on two complaints of child neglect.
Carter says police officers found dirtydishes and rat feces on the counter. They also found 4 marijuana bongs and other drug paraphernalia.
"The door was on one hinge, it wasn't a house that should have been having kids raised in it," Carter said.
According to jail documents, officers said the home was in disarray and the only items in the home's refrigerator were beer and juice.
Along with the child neglect complaints, Jones was booked into the Tulsa County jail on additional complaints of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
"Anytime you're using illicit drugs, you're running the risk you're not going tomake the correct decision," Carter said.
Neighborssay this is a quiet community, and they can't believe something like this couldhappen in their own back yard.
"I wasreally surprised to hear that there were children living there at all," saidneighbor Danielle Durasso. "Ican't imagine someone not taking care of their child."
The state Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the infant's death.
Carter says depending on what the ME's office finds, additional complaints may be filed in the case.
Jones remains in the Tulsa County jail on a $100,000 bond. DHS took the 1-year-old girl into protective custody.
