UConn Blows Out Sooners In Pinked-Out Lloyd Noble Center

NORMAN, Oklahoma – Just about the only pretty thing in the Sooners' home game against the Huskies on Monday night was all the pink shirts in the stands.

Outside of that, Connecticut essentially controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing in a 73-55 victory over OU.

Oklahoma showed a few flashes of good basketball in the game, especially compared to its past nine against the Huskies in which it has lost by an average of 34 points.

But the end result was still a loss as No. 3 UConn moved its all-time series record against the Sooners to 10-0, all of those coming by double digits.

In the first eight minutes of the game, the Huskies jumped out to a 21-4 lead, topping 80 percent from the field during the stretch while the Sooners stayed below 20 percent.

Oklahoma was determined to make a game out of it, however. A pair of free throws from Sharane Campbell with just over a minute left in the first half cut the lead back to seven and a jumper from Jelina Cerina got it down it to five.

But it was one of those nights where every small run the Sooners could muster was quickly answered with a Huskies run to keep the game just out of reach.

Connecticut quickly pushed the lead back to double digits to start the second half and didn't let it dip again.

Whitney Hand played the entire game for Oklahoma and led the Sooners with 18 points. Campbell was the only other player in double digits for OU with 11.

Meanwhile the Huskies had a pair of 20-point scorers in Tiffany Hayes and Bria Hartley and two more UConn players put up 10 each.

The Sooners suffered their second loss in three games but with good reason – the previous loss came at No. 1 Baylor, making it two top-three opponents in the span of a week.

OU dropped to 16-7 overall and remained at 8-4 in conference play, while UConn upped its record to 23-2 overall.

Oklahoma will return to conference action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home tipoff against the Kansas State Wildcats.
