State Health Dept. Confirms Meningitis In Pawnee County Infant's Death

The Oklahoma Health Department officially confirmed the Pawnee County infant who died Sunday had meningitis.

The Oklahoma Health Department officially confirmed the Pawnee County infant who died Sunday had meningitis.

The four-month old boy lived in Pawnee County but attended the Blossom Child Care Center in Sand Springs.

The health department says the general public is not at risk. Only those who have close personal contact with an infected person have a slightly increased risk.

Family members of the little boy received post-exposure antibiotics.

This is the second reported case, and first death of meningococcal disease in the state in 2012.
