As many as 100 cars belonging to American Airlines employees sustained damage Tuesday afternoon. The big question now is, how?
The cars were parked outside the airline's engineering building at Tulsa International Airport.
At first, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office told News On 6 the damage was caused by a malfunctioning bead blaster. A bead blaster is similar to a sand blaster, but uses beads instead of sand to clean corrosion, paint or other chemicals off of metal parts.
Later in the afternoon, TCSO spokesman Sergeant Shannon Clark said investigators decided to return to the scene after receiving information from employees that this might have been intentional.
SkyNews6 flew over the parking lot and recorded video of a number of employees examining damage to their cars. [WATCH VIDEO ABOVE]
TCSO says American has told them they are working with the employees and will be taking care of any damage caused because of the malfunction.
The company says it doesn't know what caused the damage. Spokeswoman Missy Cousino issued the following statement:
"We are investigating an incident involving damage to employees' cars at our Maintenance & Overhaul base in Tulsa. We have asked that local law enforcement investigate the situation."
