Tulsa Police say a 13-year-old boy is in serious condition after being shot in a drive-by shooting Sunday night while heading to a birthday party.
The shooting happened at 10:18 p.m. outside Tanzi's Bar near 32nd Street North and Peoria.
Police initially said a parent was dropping off the boy when he was hit once in the chest outside the bar. However, they have since learned the person driving the car was not the boy's parent. A friend of the family tells News On 6 the boy's mother didn't even know he was attending the party.
Tulsa Police say the bar was hosting an under-21 birthday party.
Officers say 5 to 10 rounds were fired from a large gold-colored car. They found bullet casings along Peoria from more than one caliber of gun.
Police say people at the bar didn't want police presence there and were not being cooperative. At first officers said everyone told them nothing happened and they didn't see or hear anything. After further questioning police learned someone in a car had been shooting into the air.
"It's difficult but the sad part is people turn around and think that the police can't solve crimes and they get angry with police. But in reality most crimes are solved as the citizens are the ones who come forward with information," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Steve Stoltz.
The juvenile was taken to a Tulsa hospital by his parents.
