During a school board meeting Monday evening, Tulsa Public Schools announced they had received a $1.2 million anonymous donation.

It is the second substantial donation this month. June 4, 2012, TPS announced an anonymous donor pledged more than $600,000 to the district, which saved 15 teaching jobs.

TPS Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard said the two donations combine to save 45 teaching positions that were previously going to be lost.

The district said 30 positions will be filled with discretionary money from other accounts.

Nineteen empty administrative positions will not be filled, Ballard said.

Even with the lifeline extended by private donors, he is still looking for other ways to raise funds to fund all 75 teaching positions.

The anonymous donations will offer relief for only one year.

Also at the board meeting, member Anna America announced her resignation, effective mid-July.

Dr. Lois Jacobs is running for the state legislature and if elected, will have to resign from the board as well. The election is next Tuesday.
