A doctor has been arrested on accusations that he made a lewd remark and touched an 18-year-old Muskogee woman inappropriately during a medical exam, court documents say.
Dr. Hubert Watty, 46, was arrested on Tuesday at the Agape Medical Clinic by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and Muskogee County deputies, according to prosecutor Nikki Baker. The involvement of federal agents in a felony sexual battery case is not uncommon, Baker said.
Watty has been released on $15,000 bond.
A probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday shows the woman claims Watty took her into an examination room on June 28 and watched her undress and put on a robe. She told investigators Watty gave her a vaginal exam without a chaperone and made a sexual comment during the process, the affidavit says.
Watty watched her get dressed, and as she walked out the door, the doctor "slapped her on the butt," documents say the woman claimed.
When reached by phone on Thursday, Watty declined to comment on the woman's allegations.
Watty is represented by attorney Ron Wright of Muskogee. Citing the health privacy act, Wright also declined to make a comment except to say, "Dr. Watty is pleading not guilty and we believe that to be the case."
If convicted, Watty could be sentenced up to 10 years in prison.
According to the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, Watty has been licensed to practice medicine in the state since 2004 and graduated from Morehouse School of Medicine in 1996.
There has been no prior disciplinary action taken against Watty, the board's website says.
