The City of Tulsa is renaming a portion of North Cincinnati Avenue between East Archer Street and East 65th Place North to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The change is effective October 15th.
The Tulsa city council approved the name change at a meeting in June.
"Changing the name to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. is a positive step for Tulsa," said District 1 City Councilor Jack Henderson. "As I've traveled across the country, I've noticed that most cities have a Martin Luther King Jr. street. I believe it is time for Tulsa to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. I also hope re-naming the street will spark economic development opportunities in the area. I am excited about the completion date nearing, as this honor is long overdue."
City officials say residents and businesses whose addresses will change have been notified to contact all necessary correspondents such as credit card companies and financial institutions, mortgage companies, magazine and other periodical subscriptions and subscription services, as well as to change the address on their driver's licenses.
