Classes were canceled Tuesday at Stigler High School as the community came together to mourn the loss of a senior and star football player.

The flag outside the high school flew at half-staff on Tuesday in memory of Gordon Parsons, who was found dead Friday night in Tamaha, according to the Stigler News-Sentinel.

His death comes two months after the death of one of his closest friends, Cory Cassinger, who also played football for the Panthers.

Cassinger died in a car wreck in July.

Tributes and memorial signs could be found in downtown Stigler in honor of Parsons, who wore number 42 for the football team.

News On 6 talked with several of his teachers and friends, who say both young men were upstanding kids, who had so much going for them, and despite these tragedies this town will pull together.

Classes are scheduled to resume there tomorrow with extra school counselors on hand, as well as pastors from the Stigler Ministerial Alliance.
