A McAlester Police officer was charged Friday with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon stemming from a June incident in which he allegedly tased a woman on June 2012, following her arrest for public intoxication.

Officer Sterling Taylor, 33, was arrested in an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The woman, Nakina Williams, 27, of McAlester was arrested on June 24th and charged with assault on a police officer and spitting on a police officer.

Williams pleaded guilty in July and was given a 3-year suspended sentence.

According to an affidavit filed with the Pittsburg County court, Taylor was in the process of booking a handcuffed Williams into the Pittsburg County jail when she spit on the officer.

Taylor took out his taser and "deployed it on Nakina Williams," at what the affidavit stated was "close range."

The case is being handled by the McIntosh County DA's office after the Pittsburg County DA recused himself.

Taylor is scheduled back for a December 14th court hearing.
