A suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel has been ordered by a Tulsa judge to stand trial on two counts of murder.

Police say Joel Pina beat up Patrick Shawn in the summer of 2011, because Shawn owed a $43,000 drug debt.

According to an affidavit filed with Tulsa County court in September 2011, a witness told police Joel Pina said his superiors in the drug trade would pay "stacks" of money to whoever "takes care of Patrick Shawn."

Police say Zane Atchison shot and killed Shawn later in 2011 inside a car at a south Tulsa church parking lot. They also killed Shawn's passenger, Kaylyn Kosofsky.

Prosecutors are going for the death penalty against Atchison, since he's accused of killing for money.

Pina's next court date is scheduled for November 5.
