A 5-year-old was ejected from a vehicle after a driver ran a stop sign, causing a collision at the intersection of East 14th Street and South 131st East Avenue Wednesday night.

It happened around 10 p.m.

Tulsa Police Sergeant Malcolm Wightman said a Dodge Charger was traveling southbound and ran a stop sign, colliding with a Chevrolet TrailBlazer, traveling westbound, which did not have a stop sign.

"You can tell from the body damage to the vehicle that there was a lot of energy in the collision," Wightman said.

The 5-year-old child was ejected from the SUV, police said. That child was transported to a Tulsa area hospital with critical injuries.

EMSA said a one-year-old child was also transported to a hospital in fair condition. They said the mother of the two children was also transported by EMSA, but they did not have information on whether she was injured.

The driver of the Charger exited the vehicle and took off on foot, and police said they are searching for him.

Wightman said the driver was described as a black male, about 5-foot-7, weighing 150 pounds, wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

A 68-year-old passenger in the car had to be extracted by emergency crews. He was also transported to an area hospital in fair condition.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
