The athletic director for the University of Tulsa was suspended Tuesday after it was discovered he admitted to gambling.

An FBI affidavit shows a deposit of more than $1,700 dollars from Ross M. Parmley was placed into Teddy Mitchell's bank account, which has been directly tied to his illegal gambling proceeds.

Parmley was previously employed by Norman Public Schools from 2000-05, where he served as the athletic director. Parmley was named as TU's athletic director in Jan. 2012 where he became the youngest director in Conference USA.

He previously ran the fundraising branch of the Golden Hurricane Club on an interim basis before being named associate athletic director for operations and administration from 2007 to 2011.

Parmley graduated from Cameron University with a bachelor's degree in business administration before earning a master's in sports management at the University of Oklahoma. His first job was at Ardmore High School, where he coached a variety of sports from 1996-2000.

The university released a statement this afternoon.

"TU Athletic Director Ross Parmley has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation into allegations of gambling. In the interim, Executive Vice President Kevan Buck will be acting athletic director."

The NCAA also released this statment Wednesday.

"The NCAA opposes all forms of legal and illegal sports wagering because it threatens the wellbeing of student-athletes and can undermine the integrity of college sports. NCAA rules do not allow student-athletes, athletics staff members, university staff with athletics department responsibilities or conference office staff to engage in sports wagering on any level – college, professional or otherwise – in which the NCAA holds a championship.

We cannot comment on current, pending or potential investigations."
