Mother Of Murdered Muskogee Teen Pleased, Also Saddened By Conviction

A Muskogee mother said she's got one-sixth of the justice she set out for after her son's death.

Ryan Satterfield was shot and killed in a robbery in 2011.

Wednesday, the first of six suspects accused of the murder was found guilty and Satterfield's mom was there for the entire trial.

"I would look and see a little boy who was lost and I felt sorry for him," said Michelle Satterfield.

Satterfield said her maternal side kicked in when she saw 19-year-old Deandre Clark get convicted in the shooting death of her 17-year-old son.

Her empathy was as fleeting as his freedom.

"But that's where it ended, because, obviously, he took my child from me," Satterfield said.

Clark is the first to stand trial for Ryan Satterfield's murder. He's the one who prosecutors say pulled the trigger.

"I was very pleased. Saddened, because it brought up so many emotions," Satterfield said.

Five others - Martin Miller, Frederick Watson, Tommy Dean, Troy Dufur and Jordan Miller - are awaiting their day in court.

Investigators say the group went to a Muskogee home the day before Thanksgiving 2011, intending to rob Ryan and the friends he was visiting. Ryan was shot dead.

Satterfield said the murder has affected everyone involved.

"Nine families' lives have been torn apart," she said. "The six boys, their families are grieving for them, because they're behind bars and they don't get to spend any time that's not supervised. My time spent with Ryan is at the cemetery. At least I'm at peace, knowing he'll never be hurt again."

Satterfield said she's dreading the next trial and having to go through the same emotions. She said, when Clark is sentenced, she'll get to address him.

"I'm going to look him straight in the eye and I'm going to say, ‘I'm never going to know this answer, but why was it my son? Why did you choose Ryan, of all people? Of the four boys; why Ryan?'" Satterfield said.

The jury recommended life in prison with the possibility of parole for Deandre Clark.

He'll be sentenced on May 17 and will stay in custody until then.

The next trial begins on Monday for Tommy Dean.
