A Tulsa man credited for saving the lives of two women in a vicious dog attack will be honored Monday. Mike Harrell will be recognized for his bravery at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett, City Councilor Jack Henderson and Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan will present Harrell with two citizen appreciation awards, according to a release from the City of Tulsa.
Harrell was working near the 2000 block of North Lewis Place when he heard Beverly Wright and Irene Parker screaming. The two women, Jehovah's Witnesses who were visiting a home in the area, were being mauled by a pit bull.

Parker was lying still on the ground and Wright was being attacked when he arrived on scene. The owner of the dog was using a baseball bat to try to beat the dog off Wright, but the animal would not respond.
"He was just biting her and biting her, her calves, her face, her stomach—just everywhere, non-stop," Harrell told News On 6.
Harrell grabbed his gun and distracted the dog by yelling. The dog let go of the woman and went for Harrell, and he shot it - after asking permission of the hysterical owner, he said.
