Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a wreck after a Checotah woman was found dead Saturday morning.

Her car had plunged from State Highway 9 into Lake Eufaula, according to a collision report.

Ila Brown was driving westbound on State Highway 9 about a mile west of Longtown in Pittsburgh County when her Hyundai left the road. Troopers say Brown, 60, overcorrected. Her car struck a guardrail then continued southbound down riprap and into Lake Eufaula about 25 feet from shoreline.

The car came to rest in about 10 feet of water, the report states. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver's condition at the time of the wreck and the cause of the collision are listed as unknown.

The medical examiner will determine cause of death.
