The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the trooper involved in a fatal shooting at a Tulsa motel early Sunday. OHP Captain George Brown also released the name of the victim.

Trooper Sheldon Robinson, 45, is the off-duty trooper who shot and killed 25-year-old Michael Troy Swatosh of Tulsa. Robinson, a 16-year veteran, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the OHP.

Swatosh was shot and killed just after 1 a.m. at the Best Budget Inn, Admiral and Sheridan. Brown said Sunday morning that Robinson saw Swatosh and another man with guns at the hotel and identified himself as a trooper.

Robinson "felt threatened at some point" and fired on Swatosh and the other man. Swatosh died, and the second man got away, according to Captain Brown. Several other people were questioned as potential witnesses.

Brown released no other details of OHP's ongoing investigation.
