Edmond Police arrested a woman last Wednesday who is accused of stealing nearly $600 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart. The woman told police the majority of the items were Christmas presents for her grandchildren.
It happened at a Wal-Mart store located at 1225 W. I035 Frontage Road. A Loss Prevention Employee told police he witnessed a woman, later identified as 45-year-old Darlene Young, putting items in her shopping cart without looking at prices or examining the items.
The worker said he then began following Young. He said when Young got to the area of the south doors, she stopped and looked around as if to check if anyone was watching her. That's when she pushed the loaded shopping cart out of the doors.
The worker confronted Young in the parking lot and called police. Officers say there were a total of 13 items in Young's shopping cart. They were worth $598.80.
Young was then taken into custody on charges of grand larceny.
Young reportedly told police she planned on stealing the items when she entered the store, and even had a list of items she wanted to steal. She said the majority of the items were Christmas presents for her grandchildren.
