Tulsa Fire Department Investigates Cause Of Two House Fires

Tulsa Fire Department says their investigators are looking into the cause of two house fires which forced families out of their homes early Thursday.

Firefighters got the call about the first house fire in the 13400 block of East 46th Street at about 1:10 a.m. They say a fire in the fireplace spread into the home's attic. Most of the damage was in the attic area, while the living room sustained water damage.

Firefighters say it appeared a problem with the home's chimney led to the fire, but they are still investigating.

Two people in the home and three cats escaped injury.

TFD says the second fire in a home in the 2500 block of West 34th Street North started in a bathroom and spread into the attic. Firefighters got the call at about 4 a.m.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is thought to be a heater light left on in the bathroom.

They say the family was awaken by the smell of smoke and everyone got out safely.  The home did have a smoke detector but firefighters said it had a weak battery and did not sound an alarm.

Damage to the home was confined to the attic area above the bathroom.
