Video caught a Fort Gibson police officer making a traffic stop, get stabbed by a woman walking by with a pair of scissors.
Officers like Brent Maddocks say there's no such thing as a routine traffic stop. Tuesday night, Maddocks stopped an SUV to check for an expired tag. He was going through the normal checks of the Jeep when the driver yelled at the officer.
"At first it just felt like somebody hit me," Maddocks said.
It turned out to be woman on a smoke break outside a nearby warehouse. The woman came up behind Maddocks with scissors, and he was forced to pull out his gun.
"She just started coming at me, slashing the scissors," said Maddocks.
Maddocks said he made a quick decision not to shoot with a family of four sitting in the jeep in the line of fire. Instead, he deployed his Taser, stunning 26-year-old Jessica Lugo.
Looking over the dash cam video a day later, he's happy to walk away from such a scary ordeal.
"It's an experience, and we take it, and we learn from it and we adapt and overcome," Maddocks said.
He's sharing this story hoping other officers will know to watch their back, be aware of the surrounds and know what's going on.
