USGS Reports 4.2 Earthquake Near Crescent

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 4.2 magnitude earthquake near Crescent Saturday morning.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 4.2 magnitude earthquake near Crescent Saturday morning.

The quake shook Logan and Garfield county residents around 6:42 a.m. Saturday. The USGS said the earthquake was located 12 miles north of Crescent, 22 miles southeast of Enid. The depth was reported at just over three miles deep.

About two hours earlier, at 4:54 a.m., a 2.9 magnitude earthquake shuddered eight miles northeast of Crescent, 15 miles northwest of Guthrie.

Residents near Enid, Perry and Kingfisher contacted News 9 to report the shaking. There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
