Testimony Begins In Trial For Man Accused Of Murdering Nancy Strait

Two Tulsa homicide detectives were among the first witnesses on the stand in the trial of a man accused of killing an elderly woman in 2012.

Tyrone Woodfork is charged with murdering 85-year-old Nancy Strait.

A jury of eight men and five women listened as prosecutors began presenting their case Wednesday morning.

The Strait's daughter testified about items stolen from her parent's home and the jury heard from the homicide detective who investigated the murder.

When detectives interviewed the mother of Woodfork's child, the detective said she was wearing a necklace stolen from the Strait's home.

One detective said he went to a west Tulsa pawn shop where employees said a man and woman brought in two tool boxes, a tool pouch and wedding rings to be pawned.

He said Woodfork later admitted he was at the pawn shop.

Another TPD detective described the crime scene inside the home. Prosecutors showed photos the detective said he took of the exterior and interior of the Strait home on the day of the crime.

"We heard some very graphic testimony about blood today, and we heard testimony Mr. Woodfork pawned some of the jewelry and tools and sold a TV from the victims, while driving around in their car. Pretty hard for the victim's family to hear that intimate pieces of property are just casually used by Mr. Woodfork," said Assistant District Attorney, Erik Grayless.

The detective identified photos of items that were taken into evidence from the home including bloody bedding, a plastic toilet seat with blood splatter and a pair of pliers and wire found in a bathroom.

The detective also identified photos of pellets that were found on Bob Strait's bed and inside the open drawers of a nightstand next to the bed.

Prosecutors have indicated they plan to call about 20 witnesses. If convicted, Woodfork faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.
