Friday Morning Update

We're tracking a couple of areas of shower and thunderstorm activity this morning.  Some additional activity seems likely later today in a few locations northwest of the Tulsa metro.  Active weather with storm chances will remain this weekend into early next week.   

A complex of decaying thunderstorms took a run at the northwestern areas of our region late last night before falling apart.  A few hours ago a couple of showers developed along the OK-Kansas state line area and will move eastward for the next few hours.  Some additional showers or storms will be possible in these areas during the next few hours.  

Later today the main upper level system currently nearing the desert southwest will eject another wave around the base that will travel into the state.  Additional storms will develop across the western third of the state and move northeast with time.  A few of these scattered storms will arrive near our area later this afternoon and through the evening hours.  We have increase the probability slightly compared to yesterday, but a lot of locations will remain dry.   

Saturday additional showers and storms will remain near the area with the higher coverage a possibility.   A few of the models are hinting at another wave lifting out over the area tomorrow, and we have increased the pops for Saturday. 

Sunday into Monday the main upper level low will finally draw closer to the state and our coverage for showers and storms should increase by sometime Monday or Tuesday.  We have increased the pops for Tuesday at this point, as this system should encounter a very moist air mass across the central and eastern third of the state.   

Severe weather threats will remain low with this system, but not zero.  The main threats would be damaging wet-microbursts along with some hail.   

The temps will drop a few degrees each day because of the increasing cloud cover and moisture content.   Localized rain-cooled air in the 70s will be likely at times during the afternoons.  

If you plan to be camping at one of our area lakes, please take a minute to locate sturdy shelter as your setting up camp just in case strong or severe thunderstorms approach your area this weekend.  Small campers, RV's, and of course, tents are no place to ride out a severe thunderstorm.   

The official high in Tulsa yesterday was 90 recorded at 2:42pm.

The normal daily average high is 81 and the low is 61.

Our daily records include a high of 94 from 2002 and a low of 41 from 1917.
