The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a plane crash that happened Wednesday evening at Wagoner's municipal airport.

A friend of the pilot told News On 6 the plane is an ultralight aircraft, amateur made and built by the pilot.

It went down about a hundred yards from the end of a runway around 8:30 p.m. Witnesses told the OHP the pilot was practicing take off and landings when he crashed.

They said 54-year-old Marvin McGrath of Wagoner was the only person on board and was taken to a Tulsa hospital by medical helicopter. The hospital says he is listed in fair condition.

Troopers said McGrath was alert and talking when emergency responders arrived.  He was complaining of back, head and leg pain - but his injuries are likely not life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A wrecker moved the damaged aircraft to a nearby hangar.
