DHS: Background Check Of BA Mother Charged Of Murder Showed No Problems

Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy.

The Broken Arrow mother arrested and charged with abusing her foster children was a part of a foster family support group. One member of that group said Mallory Krajian asked for help with the kids before she was charged with child abuse murder.

Court documents detail some of the behavioral challenges the mother said she was having with the kids. Her friend said she and Krajian went through extensive training on how to handles foster kids and deal with problems.

"There was nothing on this family background check that would indicate there would be any sort of problem, and unfortunately we cannot predict human behavior,” said Katelynn Burns with DHS.

That's the official statement from the Department of Human Services, and Lyndsey Reyes agrees.

Before Krajian was charged with child abuse murder, the mother of three foster children was preparing for the kids to go back to school.

"She was actually just here a week prior, picking out school clothes for the kids, and he was in my living room playing with my kiddos,” Reyes said.

Just days later, the child was rushed to the hospital with a head injury.

"She called us and asked us to pray for him, so we went down there and saw him and his little hands hooked up to the tubes. Seeing any child in that situation is just devastating,” said Reyes.

She said she met Krajian through parenting classes on how to deal with troubled kids.

Court papers show the kids were "sexually active" and had behavior issues.

Krajian claims she was in the next room and heard the toddler crying. One of the foster kids told her the kids were playing and the toddler fell backward off the couch, but police said her story doesn't add up.

"She seemed really excited about wanting to adopt the children,” Reyes said. “Some of the children, like I said, have come from extremely hard, traumatic situations and so depending on the situation they can be set off pretty easily. I know there are times, for me, that I just have to take a mommy time out.”
