Quinton Man Killed In UTV Crash On Pittsburg County Beach

A Quinton man is dead after rolling a utility vehicle near Lake Eufaula, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Two passengers survived the wreck which is believed to be alcohol related.

Troopers say James Cook was driving a Polaris Ranger on sand about 2 miles south of Crowder at 9:35 p.m. He was westbound on the beach when he failed to make a curve and lost control of the UTV.

The Polaris rolled onto the passenger side, and Cook was ejected. The 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by Pafford EMS.

Passengers Jared Howell of Arapaho and Christopher Hoffman of Clinton weren't injured. No one was wearing a safety belt, the collision report states.

The investigating trooper said Cook smelled of an alcoholic beverage, and the cause of the wreck is under investigation.
