A 3-year-old Jay boy is in critical condition after a two-vehicle collision in Delaware County Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say he was the passenger in a car that failed to yield from a stop sign while pulling out on State Highway 25, about 6 miles outside Grove.
Elizabeth McDaniel of Jay was at a stop sign on County Road 700 at 1:20 p.m. when she pulled out into the path of a van that was westbound on the highway, according to a collision report. Her four-door 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was struck in the side "in a T-bone manner," a trooper's report states.
McDaniel, 23, was treated and released at the Grove emergency room. Another passenger in the car, 33-year-old Johnathan Morton Wainwright of Jay, was taken by medical helicopter to a Joplin hospital where he was admitted in fair condition with head and internal injuries.
The toddler in McDaniel's car, who was restrained in a booster seat, was taken to a Kansas City hospital in critical condition with head and internal injuries, the investigating trooper said.
The van driver was not injured.
Troopers say the roadway was wet and both drivers were in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck. Seat belts were in use in the van but not in the Cavalier, the report states.
