A car fire inside a Tulsa automobile repair shop early Tuesday destroyed the building and sent the owner to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The Tulsa Fire Department got the call at around 1:30 a.m. to the building in the 3700 block of East Admiral Place. When they arrived, the owner of the shop who had called 911 had escaped and was waiting outside.

Firefighters said a car as well as gasoline and propane stored inside were on fire.

Tulsa Fire Captain Corey Parks says they had trouble getting inside the shop to attack the fire, but once they did they were able to keep it from spreading to nearby structures.

Firefighters say the shop owner lived in the building. EMSA took him to the hospital but we don't know his condition.

Captain Parks said the business was a total loss.

Fire investigators are now trying to determine what caused the fire.
