Two people were killed and three others were injured in a drilling rig fire in Coal County, Oklahoma, early Friday morning, according to a source close to the investigation.
According to authorities, crews responded to the fire two miles west of the city of Coalgate between Ada and Atoka. Coal County Emergency Manager Aaron Blue told News 9 the State Fire Marshal's Office and Corporation Commission are also on the scene investigating.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Oklahoma City Area Office is currently investigating the incident. OSHA officials said the fire burned five employees. Two were killed and three more were injured.
According to CBS Affiliate KXII, authorities identified the two people killed in the fire as Gary Kennen, 26, of Ada, and Kelsey Bellah, 27, of Tulsa.
OSHA officials said the workers are employed by Dan D Drilling. Although it is difficult to determine how long the investigation will take, OSHA officials said they will work diligently to determine how this incident occurred and what must be done to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.
If violations of OSHA standards are found, then OSHA can and will issue citations and those citations may be accompanied by a monetary penalty.
