Muskogee Police Identify Officer Who Shot, Killed Man

The Muskogee Police Department has identified the officer who shot and killed a man on Saturday, January 17, 2015.

The department says the officer was Chansey McMillin who has been on the force since July 5, 2012. Officer McMillin is on routine, paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.

A department spokesman says body camera video recorded by the officers at the scene will be released as soon as possible pending the OSBI's investigation and consultation with the city attorney and Muskogee County District Attorney's Office.

The man who was shot has been identified as Terence D. Walker, 21.

Police said the incident began when officers responded to call about an armed man approaching a woman at a wedding inside the Old Agency Baptist Church. Police said Walker had threatened to kill the woman in the past. They said he called her Saturday and asked her to step outside.

Police said Walker dropped something, then reached to pick it up and turned toward the officer, forcing the officer to open fire. Police say they found a loaded semi-automatic pistol near Walker's body.

Community leaders called for calm immediately after the shooting at the church where the wedding was held and then again on Sunday.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation.
