Muskogee police said the man who shot a customer as he tried to rob a convenience store last week is still missing.

Police released surveillance video Monday, in hopes someone would recognize the suspect.

The video from the Stop N Go doesn't show much as for the suspect's description, but it does show a gun pointed at CJ Stout, who was on the ground and made a split second decision.

"This man was obviously serious about his intentions about getting some money and he was going to do anything he could to get it," he said.

Stout said he went to Stop N Go to charge his phone so he could call his family. While he was waiting around and chatting with the clerk, the robber walked in and pointed a gun at him.

Stout said he started to go to the ground until he saw an opportunity.

"I was acting pure out of fear," he said.

The robber shot Stout in the shoulder, hit him with the gun several times then left without any of the money.

“You see him running at this point, at this point the victim has been shot," said Muskogee Police Sergeant, Michael Mahan.

Stout only spent a day in the hospital and is now recovering at home.

"With the entrance and exit it's so painful, I can't even move my whole shoulder, my left side, lats, trap or anything," Stout said.

Mahan said it's hard to second guess the decision Stout made to intervene.

"It's difficult for me to say, you know, I think he made a split second decision there. I think that he felt like that his life was in danger, her life was in danger at that point he decided to make his move," Mahan said.

Stout said he doesn't regret what he did to stop the robbery. He's grateful to be alive and happy no one else got hurt.

"I felt like I had to do what I had to do. Luckily this turned out in my favor up to this point, hopefully everything heals," he said. “He'll get caught soon enough. The only thing I can do is hope and pray that he doesn't hurt anybody else."
