TU Set To Host Eastern Michigan In WNIT Round 2

Tulsa (18-13) will host Eastern Michigan (23-12) in the WNIT Second Round on Sunday, March 22 beginning at 5:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The winner of the Tulsa-EMU game will advance to play the winner of the Southern Miss-TCU game in the Third Round (March 25-27).

Tulsa in Postseason

Tulsa has made four postseason appearances, including WNIT bids in 2004 and 2005, and NCAA bids in 2006 and 2013. TU lost in the first round in 2004 (Memphis), 2005 (Texas A&M) and 2013 (Stanford), but went 1-1 (W, North Carolina State; L, DePaul) in 2006, and is 1-0 in 2015 for a 2-4 overall mark in postseason play.

The Series

This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Eastern Michigan on the women's basketball court.

In the Last 13

Tulsa has won 10 of its last 13 games, including a six-game winning streak spanning from January 24 to Feb. 14 for the longest unbeaten streak on the season. TU closed out the regular season with a three-game wining streak, but fell to Tulane in the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals.

Leading the Way

Juniors Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey, and senior Mariah Turner are posting double-digit points this season. Clark has a team-best 14.4 ppg, while Turner adds 11.7 ppg and Grovey posts 10.9 ppg. Clark has a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game and 15 blocks, Kadan Brady has 52 steals and Teanna Reid has 94 assists.

Scouting the Opponent

Eastern Michigan has a 23-12 overall record, winning nine of their last 10 contests, including an 80-70 win over Drake in the WNIT First Round. The Eagles are led by Cha Sweeney with 17.3 ppg and 128 assists, while Janay Morton also scored in double figures with 12.4 ppg and she adds 75 steals. Brianna Puni has a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game and 20 blocks.

In TU's Last Contest

Ashley Clark and Kelsee Grovey each scored 22 points to lead Tulsa to a 78-72 win over Missouri State on Friday night in the WNIT First Round at JQH Arena in Springfield, Mo. Clark had her 11th career double-double and seventh this season as she also recorded 13 rebounds. Mariah Turner tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, while Kadan Brady added 11 points, and Erika Wakefield scored eight points and had six assists.

Tulsa shot 46-percent from the field, 43-percent from behind the arc and 76-percent from the charity stripe, while Missouri State shot 36-percent from the field, 40-percent from three-point range and 62-percernt from the free throw line.

TU had a 45-39 lead in rebounds, a 6-4 advantage in steals and a 3-2 lead in blocks, while both teams had 15 assists. MSU had just nine turnovers to the Hurricane's 16, nine of which came in the first half.

Adding Up

Tulsa junior Ashley Clark became the ninth women's basketball player in school history to score 1,000 career points. She picked up her 1,000th career point against Cincinnati in the final regular season game and currently has 1,051. One game later against Tulane in the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinal game classmate Kelsee Grovey became the 10th player to reach that milestone. She has 1,024 career points currently.

Mossman Has 207 Career Wins

Matilda Mossman reached the 200-win milestone as Tulsa captured a 70-61 win over UCF on Jan. 31, 2015. Mossman had 67 wins at Arkansas, 80 wins at Kansas State and currently 60 wins at TU for 207 career victories.

- Brady is second in games played (121), sixth in three-point field goals made (134) and ninth in steals (140)

- Grovey is third in three-point field goals made (163), eighth in assists (225) and free throw percentage with a .820 clip (165 of 201), and 10th in points (1,024), field goals made (348) and three-point field goal percentage with a .367 clip (163 of 444)

- Ashley Hughes is third in three-point field goal percentage with a .387 clip (24 of 62) and fourth in free throw percentage with a .833 clip (20 of 24)

- Teanna Reid is first in three-point field goal percentage with a .423 clip (36 of 85)

- Turner is second with a .546 field goal percentage (352 of 644), sixth in games played (119), eighth in rebounds (540), and ninth in field goals made (352) and free throws made (214)

- Webster is 10th in free throw percentage with a .805 clip (29 of 36)

The Golden Hurricane ranks 55th nationally in steals per game (9.7), 60th in field goal percentage (42.6), 71st in three-point field goal percentage (34.1) and 75th in assists per game (14.6).

Individually, Ashley Clark is 83rd in field goal percentage (47.7).
