Several Tulsa Public School students suffered minor injuries when an SUV hit a school bus head-on Monday morning in the 4200 block of North Lewis.
The crash happened just before 8:20 a.m.
Police said the TPS bus was traveling north on Lewis Avenue when the Durango slammed in the bus. Officers said Durango clipped a white car prior to hitting the bus.
School officials said there were 36 students on the bus headed to McClain Junior High School and McClain's 7th Grade Academy. Police said six of the students were taken to the hospital by EMSA to be checked out.
Firefighters had to cut the driver out his Dodge Durango, before EMSA took him to the hospital. Police said he was conscious after being pulled from the wreckage. EMSA said he was transported in serious condition. Police said a woman driving the white car was not injured.
School officials said the uninjured students were put on another school bus and taken on to school.
"We'll just have to make sure kids are taken care of, parents contacted. Just want to make sure everyone is well taken care of," said Chris Payne, Tulsa Public Schools.
Tulsa Police say the Dodge Durango's driver may have been speeding prior to the crash but they are still investigating.
