Investigation Continues Into Fiery Triple-Fatality Wreck In Muskogee County

Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released additional information in a fiery head-on crash killed three people Saturday on Highway 16 in Muskogee County.

The preliminary investigation shows one vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting another head on just before 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015. Both vehicles burst into flames.

Two people died at the scene - their names have not been released. Troopers named a third person who died at the hospital following the crash. She is 24-year-old Ashley Biggs of Muskogee. Biggs was a passenger in the car that was hit head on by the vehicle that swerved.

The driver of that car, Christina Biggs of Muskogee, was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter. The 42-year-old woman was admitted in critical condition with multiple injuries, a collision report states.

A Mountain View volunteer firefighter says it was the most intense car fires he's ever seen. When crews got to the scene, both cars were filled with smoke and flames.

The way the two cars burst into flames on impact isn't common and neither was the heat it put off, firefighters said.

The heat burned highway reflectors 50 yards away, and where the cars sat, the flames burned about 4 inches through the concrete right down to the rebar.

Due to the damage caused by the flames the roadway was shut off for ODOT repairs hours after the scene had been cleared.
