Broken Arrow's Archie Bradley Has Memorable Major League Debut

Archie Bradley's Major League debut couldn't have gone much better.

The former Broken Arrow Tiger threw six shutout innings in the 6-0 win, and he even picked up a hit off Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw.

The moment is still sinking in for Bradley and his family.

It was palpable, you could just feel it, you could hear it, you could see it, you could taste it...

PA announcer: "Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the house... welcome to the big leagues kid, go get 'em!"

Bradley lived out a childhood dream on Saturday night, pitching in the majors, against the Dodgers and doing it in front of 40,000 people.

“As I got dressed, my drive in to the field is when it hit me,” Bradley said. “Coming around the mountains, I see Chase Field, and that's when I was like ‘oh, my gosh, this is a real thing.'"

The debut was a success, but that doesn't mean it came without stress for Bradley or his family.

“I think it was the fourth inning with 1 out, guy on second and guy on third, hit and it's a tie ball game, but he got out of that jam,” dad Charlie Bradley said. “He comes in in the fifth and strikes out all three players – bam, bam, bam -- and we're sitting kind of relaxed, thinking he's done, and he comes out to finish the sixth inning. That whole series right there was just really cool.”

For Bradley, the support he got from his loved ones was top notch.

“I think I had like 55 to 60 people here,” he said. “I just wanted to cherish this moment and live it up as much as I could. Everyone's telling me this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not every day do you get to debut in the big leagues, and I wanted everyone that supported me or had a part in this, and I just can't thank them enough for being here. It's something I'll never forget."

And he has hometown full of people who have cheered him on for years in northeastern Oklahoma.

“We can't thank everyone enough,” mom Pam Bradley said. “Broken Arrow, just people through the years... we realize it wasn't a one-man success show. There were many, many people who helped him get to this point... and we're just so thankful for the village of support and the prayers that people continue to send his way."

Just one game into his career, Archie Bradley and his family have memories that will last a lifetime.
