Sources: Tulsa Deputies Face Disciplinary Hearing For Holding Shooting Victim

News On 6 has learned the two Tulsa County deputies who held down an April shooting victim could be disciplined.

Joseph Byars and Michael Huckaby held down Eric Harris after he was shot by Reserve Deputy Bob Bates, and sources tell News On 6 they will have a disciplinary hearing Friday at the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the source, depending on the result of the hearing, it could lead to suspension, firing or another action.

Video of the April 2 shooting shows the two deputies holding down Harris after he had been shot.

Harris can be heard saying that he couldn’t breathe, to which the deputy responded with “F—k your breath!”

Harris’ family said the two deputies treated Eric’s life as if it had no value and called the shooting malicious and inhumane.

Deputies, on the other hand, said they were in a high-stress situation and were dealing with an ex-con suspected of selling illegal guns.

These details of the hearing come just hours after the Oklahoma Supreme Court denied the Tulsa County Sheriff’s motion to stop a grand jury investigation into the sheriff and his office.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled it doesn’t have the jurisdiction in the case and denied Sheriff Stanley Glanz’s motion to stop a jury from being seated.

While Glanz has yet to share his thoughts on the ruling, members of We The People Oklahoma are thrilled with the decision.

Thursday’s ruling is the sheriff's second failed motion to stop the grand jury investigation; however, he could still file a motion at the district court level, or could file a "petition in error" at the state Supreme Court level, according to We The People attorney Laurie Phillips.

The grand jury is scheduled to be impaneled Monday.
